It's just not going to be easy because I think they really want to develop the games themselves (tbf, look at their Wikipedia entry and see what's the common theme with all the server-closed games) but that's making it hard for them to do it effectively. I'm not looking forward to that project as much since the aesthetics look so boring compared to their usual stuff (never mind the huge difference in visual style their company is known for) even if I think that the core concept sounds interesting.Ĭygames is made of ex-Final Fantasy devs (you can definitely see from the character design and music, the latter of which includes Nobuo Uematsu) and from what I heard they essentially went to gacha because it makes them enough money to do the project they want but now they seem to want to use the gacha money to get out of the dead-end mobile gacha market. They also have a new IP codenamed "Project Awakening" that seems to be a Dark Souls and Monster Hunter inspired game which they have stated will be extended to PS5 depending on how development goes, and they haven't cancelled it yet but probably put on the slow burner until development on Re:Link is finished. With how hostile government and players are getting towards lootbox-style gameplay, it was a surprisingly wise decision from at least 6 years ago when the conversation wasn't as bad (for companies) as it is today. I believe that's why they are transitioning into non-gacha games. I'd be surprised if there's any one answer, it's probably a little of everything. Cygames may have just decided to want the entire pie and pulled it in for themselves. extra funding means different talks on how to allocate various things in development (how much credit a studio receives, cuts of profit, etc). Versus was a huge success for Cygames and there was a decision to put more focus on re link as a way to expand on this IP.I don't imagine this is something Kamiya would appreciate having to compromise on. This became one of the big focuses not too long after PG cut off, and I could see PG's fast paced battle system being hard to implement while there's now potentially 4 players on screen at once. I wager the snag here laid in the online multiplayer. creative differences with the directors (same differences that lead to Scalebound's cancellation). They may have been too busy to keep everything up at once. Bayo in particular may have been hitting some snags and they needed more hands on it. Platinum got swamped with a lot of work in 2019 between Astral Chain, Bayonetta 3, and two other projects. We'll probably never know the true answer, but some speculation: /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
